No more tidying before the robot runs

Socks on the hall floor and slippers by the bed usually stop a robot. Saros Z70 extends its arm, lifts the item and puts it where you've chosen in the app – then cleans the spot where it lay.

A dock for the upkeep

When the robot comes home, the dock washes the mops with 80 °C hot water, dries them with warm air, empties the dust and refills the robot's water.

Over thresholds and under furniture

The chassis lifts over thresholds and out of U-shaped furniture legs, and at 7.98 cm tall the robot gets under low sofas and beds.

I'd like to start by saying I was sceptical about this robot and its robotic arm, but in the end I liked it and changed my mind. The suction, already set to medium, is more than enough for daily cleaning, and the anti-tangle system works well – I've never found hair or fur stuck in the brushes. Since I have a dog and a partner with long hair, that was a problem for me. I also liked that it lifts both brushes when they're not needed and that it can reach corners. Luckily it can also wet the floor in my case, where the tiles aren't perfectly level. When it finds an obstacle it follows its outline and retracts the mop if needed without moving it – for example, it brushes the chair legs without being too aggressive. The arm that extends from this robot isn't just fun to use but also useful, as the robot has several times carried my daughter's slippers to the area I set. It still needs improvement because it sometimes doesn't pick up every item, but the app says new items it can move will be added, so I'm trusting that promise. Otherwise everything works well, and I like it most because it's innovative.

Works as promised, got going quickly – what takes time is learning all the new features. You have to take one thing at a time. The robotic arm is a bit tricky, too few options, doesn't understand there are more things it should recognise. Otherwise a fun little robot that gets over higher thresholds and doesn't give up: it picks up a bit more speed and angles itself, and hey presto, it's over. :-)

What can the robotic arm pick up?

According to Roborock items up to 300 g, such as socks, small towels, napkins and slippers. More item types can be added through software updates. You can also control the arm yourself in the app.

Is the arm safe for children and pets?

The arm can be switched off completely so it doesn't extend. The robot has an emergency stop button, anti-pinch protection at the arm and hatch, collision sensing and limited grip force.

Is the arm switched on from the start?

No, the arm function is switched on in the Roborock app, where you also choose where items should be placed.

Does the dock need a water connection?

No. The dock has a clean-water tank and a dirty-water tank that you fill and empty by hand.

Description

Saros Z70 has a foldable robotic arm that picks up small things from the floor before it cleans where they were. Socks, slippers, small towels and napkins it can move to places you choose in the app – according to Roborock items up to 300 g. The arm folds into the robot when not in use.

On the first clean the robot sees which items it can lift, and on the second it moves them and cleans the area underneath. You can also control the arm yourself in the app and use the cameras on the robot and the arm to check on your home remotely.

As a robot vacuum it has 22,000 Pa suction according to Roborock, tangle-free brushes, a side brush and mop that reach out into corners, and warm-water mopping with two rotating mops. It's 7.98 cm tall and can lift its chassis over thresholds.
