Fill the water tank under the tap

The 3.2-litre water tank lifts out and is filled under the tap. It lasts up to 15 hours, and the unit warns you when it's time to refill. Philips says ordinary tap water works.

See the air quality in real time

The ring and display show the particle level and humidity. The sensors scan the air continuously and adjust the speed in auto mode, and in the Air+ app you follow the air indoors and out.

How often are the filters changed?

According to Philips the HEPA filter (FY3400) lasts up to a year and the humidification filter (FY3401) about six months, depending on the air and usage. The unit calculates the filter life and tells you when it's time.

What's the difference between AC3420/10 and AC3421/13?

The colour: AC3420/10 is white (Arctic White) and AC3421/13 dark grey. The features are the same.

What humidity should I aim for?

Indoors, 40–60 % relative humidity usually feels comfortable. With the radiators on in winter, indoor air can drop to 20–30 %. Set the level you want and let the humidity sensor do the work – above 60 % is rarely needed and can cause condensation on cold windows.

Is it safe with children at home?

The water isn't heated, so there's no hot steam, and the panel has a child lock. Place it steadily on the floor where it can't tip over.

How do I clean it?

Empty the water and let the parts dry when you're not using it. Clean the tank and filter about once a week as the manual describes – with water and a soft brush, and descale when needed. Never leave old water standing for days. Vacuum the pre-filter when it turns grey.

Description

One appliance that both purifies and humidifies – handy when indoor winter air is dry and you also want to catch dust, pollen and cooking smells. PureProtect Water 3400 purifies rooms up to 78 m² and humidifies at up to 650 ml/h according to Philips.

Purification happens in three layers: pre-filter, HEPA NanoProtect and activated carbon. According to Philips the filter captures 99.97 % of particles down to 0.003 microns in laboratory tests, and the carbon deals with odours. Humidification is evaporative (NanoCloud): the water evaporates from a filter with no visible mist, and the water isn't heated.

Sensors measure particles (PM2.5), temperature and humidity, and in auto mode it picks the speed itself. Night mode goes down to 16.5 dB(A) and dims the display. In the Philips Air+ app you see the air quality, set schedules and control it remotely – also by voice.

The water tank holds 3.2 litres and lasts up to 15 hours. Available in white (AC3420/10) and dark grey (AC3421/13).
