The Sunday stew, start to finish

Brown the meat and vegetables right in the pot, add stock and choose Slow Cook or Braise. Through the glass lid you can check progress without lifting it. A few hours later the meat is tender and there's only one pot to wash.

Finish in the oven

When the stew is done, top it with a pie lid, mashed potato or grated cheese and put the whole pot in the oven. It withstands up to 240 °C, and the stainless steel handles make it easy to lift.

The ladle has its place

The included utensil works as both a ladle and a pasta spoon and rests in the lid handle when not in use. A steam rack is included for fish and vegetables.

Great product. I made a cow pie with it and it really is a one-pot pleasure: it fried the onions and meat beautifully, then I slow cooked it for 6 hours. The meat was falling apart, and the added bonus was chucking the pastry on top and popping it in the oven for 30 minutes. Brilliant machine.

Firstly, I purchased this to replace my existing slow cooker, which I kept in a cupboard. I am arthritic, and removing and washing the bowl had become difficult, both because of the weight and holding it while washing up. I liked the Ninja Foodi immediately, mainly because of its appearance and easy-to-hold handles. It sits well on my worktop, looks very good and is ready to use. I haven't had it long, but once I use it regularly I shall be trying out every other function it has to offer. I batch cook in the slow cooker and am currently waiting for more recipes. What I have cooked has been brilliant. I particularly like that you can sear the meat and vegetables in the same pot and then continue with the rest of the ingredients. I can't wait to try the other functions.

Already love it! Easy to use and clean. Excellent build quality. My first attempt was a Cumberland pie: I used the sear, slow cooked on high, then put the pot straight into the oven to brown off. One of the best things is the heavy lid, which means you don't get water spluttering all over the worktops and no lid-banging sound like you get with less expensive slow cookers.

This is by far my favourite Ninja appliance so far, and I have a few. I have used the slow cook function many times for beef skirt, beef joints and a leg of lamb, each time on high. The results were perfect, soft, melt-in-the-mouth meat. It cooks quicker than a standard slow cooker: a leg of lamb on high was perfect, falling off the bone after 4 hours, and a small beef joint was ready in 2.5 hours. I love that I can cook the meat, wrap it in foil when done and then steam the veggies in this Ninja slow cooker. Saves having to use different appliances. So impressed – it really is a fantastic appliance and so easy to clean.

How much does it hold?

Can the pot go on the hob?

No. The pot is designed for the base and for the oven up to 240 °C. Do the searing directly in the base with Sear/Sauté.

What is dishwasher safe?

The pot, the utensil and the glass lid. Wipe the base with a damp cloth.

Does it cook faster than an ordinary slow cooker?

It heats from the bottom, the sides and with steam. Several buyers say it is quicker, but follow the times in the recipe book.

How fast will it arrive, and can I change my mind?

The pot holds 8 l, up to eight portions according to Ninja. It is removable, non-stick and oven safe up to 240 °C, so you can add a pie lid and let it brown in the oven. The handles let you carry it straight to the table.

Eight modes: Slow Cook, Braise, Sear/Sauté, Steam, Simmer, Keep Warm, Prove and Bake. Heat comes from the bottom, the sides and the steam under the lid. Ladle, steam rack and recipe book are included, and ladle, lid and pot are dishwasher safe.

For batch cooking, Sunday stews and anyone who wants to cook without standing at the hob.
